Council warns people about job scam

“The municipality will never request candidates to make payments to secure positions.”

eMBALENHLE – Job scamsters now targets the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

Council warned the public about a job scam that involves an offer of jobs at the municipality.

The office of the regional manager in Region 3 received a call from a member of the public who enquired about a call for an interview for an administration clerk’s position at the municipality.

Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of Communication and Marketing, said the caller allegedly requested that money be deposited either at Spar or Shoprite, using his cell phone number as reference so that he can prioritise them for employment.

He said the municipality is taking this matter serious and has reported it to eMbalenhle Police.

“The municipality will never request candidates to make payments to secure positions.

“The municipality advertises employment opportunities on its websites, on municipal notice boards and in mainstream media in line with its recruitment policy.

“All prospective job seekers are urged to be on the lookout for employment opportunities on these information platforms.”
