SECUNDA – Motorists who have been waiting for their licenses for more than six months, are calling on the mayor to intervene in the crisis at the Govan Mbeki Municipality License Department.
The upset motorists said the wait has been too long and it has brought negative consequences in their lives.
They alleged that the municipal head of marketing and communication, Mr Bheki Kubheka, was lying when he said that the backlog has been addressed.
They said the backlog is not addressed and that it is chaotic at the license department.
A motorist said she was still waiting for her new driver’s licence card since 16 April last year.
She as a result cannot travel out of Secunda, let alone in the country.
“If I do, and happen to drive with an expired license card, I may find myself thrown in jail.
“This is not fair.
“I went to the department for follow ups and was treated with disrespect.
“The employees are rude.”
The community has also been complaining a lot about the attitude of the staff working at these license offices, hence the fact that it is out of their control.
Another motorist said the treatment he and other residents were receiving, showed that the employees do not practice the Bantu Pele principles.
“I applied for my license in December and was told to come after three weeks to collect it.
“I went there and Mr Nkosi, the manager, told me that it was posted in January and that he does not know what happened.
“He promised he will investigate and I must come back again.”
The disgruntled motorists urged Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor, and Mr Mmella Mahlangu to intervene.
