Knights, fairies, wizards and dragons will take over Lake Umuzi on September 26 when Medieval Fantasy Day Secunda transforms the venue into a magical kingdom for a day of family entertainment in support of local animal welfare organisations.

Running from 09:00 to 16:00, the event promises medieval-themed entertainment, interactive games, market stalls, food vendors, mythical creatures, fortune telling, fairy door hunts, mermaids, mechanical bull rides, costume competitions and activities for all ages.

Organisers say the event was created not only to offer a unique family experience, but also to raise funds for animals in need.

Proceeds from ticket sales will help provide food, emergency veterinary care, sterilisations and rescue support for vulnerable animals, while assisting rescued pets in finding permanent homes.

This year’s beneficiaries are Khulula Animal Welfare Society (KHAWS), Animal Protection Task Unit (APTU) and Because Dogs & Co, organisations that have collectively rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed hundreds of animals across the region.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive in costume, with competitions planned for children, teenagers and adults. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative medieval and fantasy-inspired outfits.

The event will also highlight rescue stories such as McGyver, Nova and Ranger, showcasing the impact that community support and responsible animal welfare can have on the lives of abandoned and neglected animals.

Organisers are still seeking vendors, sponsors and volunteers to help bring the medieval kingdom to life and encourage residents to book tickets early for what is expected to be one of Secunda’s most unusual family events of the year.
