SECUNDA – The executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality and the House of Traditional Leaders resolved misunderstandings between them on 8 March.
This came after the House of Traditional Leaders made several attempts to meet with Ms Lindi Masina and her committee, but without any success.
Ms Masina apologised to the chiefs and said she did not attend an arranged meeting because of a communications mishap.
The House of Traditional Leaders accepted the executive mayor’s apology and commended her for meeting with them.
Mr Isaac Mahlangu, chief, said it was the beginning of a more productive relationship that will uplift the living conditions of residents.
“We told Ms Masina that we were not happy at all to be ignored as traditional leaders.
“We demanded recognition from Council and wanted to be more involved in the transformation of our town into a model city of excellence.
“That cannot be done if we are ignored.
“We also raised the issue of development and service delivery in our area.”
The two parties agreed to meet regularly to address issues that are affecting the community.
