Council addresses the licensing crisis

Motoristss can now collect their driver’s licenses at the Secunda Testing Ground.

SECUNDA – Motorists’ driver’s licenses are eventually available and can be collected.

This came after motorists had called on Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality to raise their dissatisfaction with having to wait too long for their licenses.

Some have been waiting for more than eight months.

Council said the delay was due to a disagreement between the municipality and the service provider.

Some motorists speculated that the municipality is drowning in debt and could not afford to pay the service provider.

However, Council disputed this.

It is still unclear as to what the problem was, but Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of Marketing and Communications, said the municipality has addressed the issue.

“We are pleased to inform the public that license cards are now available for collection at the Secunda Testing Station.

“It is important that the public note that licenses will be distributed during working hours while other distribution avenues are explored.

“We request people to be patient due to backlogs caused by the disagreement.”

He said the municipality is working around the clock to resolve problems at the Bethal and Eendracht Testing Station.
