BETHAL – A Sector 2 Community Policing Forum member noticed that a large number of stop signs were removed from streets.
Mr Werner Herselman said this matter also came to the attention of police officers who were patrolling the area.
A total of 39 signs were stolen.
Mr Herselman said he was not sure who removed the signs and why, but it is a big concern.
Some of the busiest crossings and junctions in the neighbourhood are without stop signs and compulsory stops are therefore ignored, especially by motorists who are unfamiliar with the area.
Road markings are also not clear anymore.
Mr Herselman said: “If there is no stop sign, motorists drive as though there are no stop streets during rain or at night.”
This situation poses a serious threat for potential fatal accidents or serious injuries and motorists were cautioned to drive carefully and safely.
