KINROSS – Govan Mbeki Municipality dismissed allegations that rubbish removal employees are collecting the waste only on weekends and at night to create overtime.
This came after Kinross residents witnessed a change in the waste removal schedule over four weeks.
Residents blamed the municipality of not communicating with them when there are service delivery problems.
Mr Bheki Kubheka, senior manager at the Municipal Manager’s office, said the change in the schedule was due to a breakdown of trucks, which prompted the waste section to collect waste over the weekend.
“The normal schedule of collecting waste on Wednesdays and Thursdays still applies, but in case of a breakdown, the municipality will resort to other avenues and will collect waste on weekends to replace days lost during which waste was not collected according to the timetable,” said Mr Kubheka.
He also said the municipality disputes allegations that employees are not working during the normal working hours and are working after hours to claim overtime.
“Employees work overtime in cases where there are breakages on equipment and there is a shortage of trucks.
“Overtime is not a requisite to employees, but it may arise depending on the challenges that are beyond the control of that particular department,” said Mr Kubheka.
