Angry residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality are demanding that the municipal manager, Mr Mmela Mahlangu, is returned to his position.
Mr Mahlungu was ordered a transfer to Msukaligwa Local Municipality.
He is to serve the remainder of his employment contract, which expires in January next year, at Msukaligwa.
The residents wearing ANC T-shirts are protesting outside the local municipality.
They said they want Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor of the municipality, to leave.
UPDATE
In their memorandum, the protesters demand that the decision to transfer Mr Mahlangu, be reversed because it is not acceptable and is not procedural.
Mr Vusi Khumalo, an ANC Youth League member, reading the memorandum said they demand that the Premier, Mr David Mabuza, intervene because the transfer was influenced by politics, greediness and corruption and that the mayor, Ms Lindi Masina, and her friends and family are involved.
“We demand the removal of the mayor, as well as her friends, Ms Ethel Nkosi, MMC for Technical Services, Mr Freddy Nkambule, MMC for Corporate Services, and Mr Dlamini, supply chain manager.
“We want them out.”
They also urged that Ms Masina be investigated regarding corruption.
Mr anthony Makhaye, Chief Whip of the ANC, received the memorandum and said he will forward it to the relevant structures.
