A group of Lekwa municipal employees stood up for Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, after some South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) members escorted him out of the municipal building on Monday.
These employees, who are also Samwu members, said the union does not have a right to call for Mr Tshabalala’s resignation because they did not appoint him.
They said if the union has a problem with him, they should address their grievances in a correct way and not close offices.
According to them, when the workers stop working, Lekwa residents get affected.
“They can not pay for municipal services when the offices are closed,” Mr Dodeni Ngwenya, municipal employee, said.
