The ANC Solomon Bhungane Youth League Branch commemorated Human Rights Day at Hlobisa Primary School on 21 March.
According to Mr Mfanafuthi Khumalo, deputy chairman of the branch, the event was aimed at reminding young people about the significance of the day.
Mr Linda Dhlamini, Lekwa mayor, addressed them and urged them to enjoy the freedom responsibly that other people laid their lives down for.
He said they must know that freedom comes with responsibilities.
The event also gave young people a platform to engage on the social ills that have a negative impact on their lives and how it can be fixed.
Unemployment, substance abuse and lack of sports facilities were top of the agenda during the discussion.
