Govan Mbeki Municipality apologised to residents for not collecting rubbish for weeks.
They said they collected most of the backlog of rubbish on 9 April in Kinross and Evander, however there was a site that was not serviced in Thistle Grove.
Not only Kinross and Evander residents’ rubbish was not removed, but also some of the areas in Secunda.
Residents voiced their frustrations on social media last Friday where they planned to group themselves and approach the municipality regarding the problem.
Residents who live near the Sasolia Primary School whose rubbish was also not collected on Saturday, plead with the municipality to stop people from throwing their rubbish next to the school.
“It is unfair that we have to suffer the consequences of the non removal of rubbish by the municipality.
“People now throw their rubbish in front of our houses,” said a resident who lives next to Sasolia Primary School.
Residents said they are also not happy with the reservoir that is still leaking even after it was apparently fixed.
“The whole area is always wet and all we hope for is for the municipality to find a solution to fix the reservoir, because the damage might not be seen now, but it is going to become a huge problem,” said the resident.
The municipality said the backlog was caused by breakdowns and non availability of trucks due to breakages.
