A sewage spill that caused some Rooikoppen residents to move their furniture outside has stopped.
However these residents are worried that it might give problems again.
Sewage from the toilets was spilling inside the RDP houses on 1 April.
The manhole in this area was also clogged and the residents unblocked it.
According to them, they did not receive any help from the Lekwa Municipality when they reported the matter.
Mr Thabo Moloi, a resident, said a municipal employee told him that there is a contractor working on all the sewage issues in Rooikoppen and they are responsible to fix the problem.
“The contractor failed to help me and told me that they are only going to replace pipes, not fix sewage spills.”
“They told me that the municipality must intervene,” Mr Moloi said.
The municipality has confirmed that there is a contractor working on the sewage issues in Rooikoppen.
According to Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager at the municipality, Ludonga Constructions will take as much time as they need to resolve the problem permanently.
She said they have a Bill of Quantities (BOQ) that dictates what needs to be done.
According to her, the municipality was supposed to fix the sewage spill.
“Where support from the contractor is required, we will approach them through the Executive Manager Technical Services (EMTS),” Ms Mtshiselwa also said.
The municipality encouraged community members to request the name of the person they report to and obtain the reference number.
“This will help in tracing complaints and also address the wrong treatment that the community receives from the municipal employees.”
