Taxi violence: Motorists warned to be cautious
Police advise motorists to use the N17 highway, rather than the R29 road.
UPDATE: The Evander Police confirmed that one of the Zamokuhle Taxi Association drivers was rescued after he was chased by two Crafters (22 seater taxis) from where he had abandoned his taxi and seek refuge at a house on the road to Kriel.
His taxi was shot at three times and was taken to the Leandra Police Station.
The driver was given safe accommodation.
The police urged motorists not to use the R29 road between Kinross and Leandra, because the situation is tense.
People can use the N17 highway, but must nevertheless be cautious because the violence has spread to other areas in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area.

EVANDER – Sgt Sibusiso Mbuli from Evander Police Station, said the police are currently meeting with the two taxi associations at the station.
The chief of the traffic department, Ms Phindi Malibe, was also seen entering the station.
The situation is still tense and the roads to Evander are also still being monitored.
EVANDER – Violence has again erupted between two taxi associations.
A Zamokuhle Taxi Association taxi was damaged by members of the Vukta Taxi Association in front of the Evander Police Station after the driver had seek refuge at the station.
The police are monitoring the roads to and in Evander.
The police advised the Ridge Times’ reporters to vacate the area as it is too dangerous.
