Motorists warned not to take N17 highway
More than one vehicle involved in accident.
UPDATE: The accident scene has cleared and the highway is open again.
Cars driving bumper to bumper and motorists are urged to be patient, to keep a safe distance and to be careful.

TRICHARDT – Motorists are warned not to attempt to drive on the N17 highway between Trichardt and Bethal.
There was a major accident involving more than one vehicle. According to MEC Vusi Shongwe of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, five people were killed and twelve people suffered serious injuries.
Traffic is backed up all the way to the Trichardt N17 off ramp.
Motorists are further warned to be aware of cars making U turns on the highway and speeding along in the yellow lane in their quest to look for an alternative road home.
