Come Hang With Us hosted its first Coetric Night at Vibe Lounge on 7 July

TRICHARDT – Come Hang With Us (CHWU) is an invitation and a movement.

The co-founders, Messrs Ayanda Masilela and Patrick (Jr) Mashele, said it has ridden the waves of social media and grown in support and popularity over only three months.

The first coetric night was hosted by CHWU at Vibe Lounge in Trichardt on Thursday, 7 July.

Coetry is a combination of performances in both comedy and poetry and was the main attraction of the night.

The aim was for local talent to showcase their talents, while it also provided individuals with an atmosphere in which to enjoy each other’s company.

“CHWU wants to get people together and to hang out together with some entertainment and good vibes,” Mr Mashele said.

At age 22 and an aspiring comedian himself, Mr Mashele considers CHWU to be not only a movement for the people, but a complete brand.

The event, which was free for all who wished to attend, was an introduction to Come Hang With Us.

“The idea [of a free show] was to make people aware of the brand,” Mr Mashele said.

In addition to comedy and poetry, the evening featured musical performances by local artist Oz Zeros and eMbalenhle-based band, Soul Amazing.

Mr Masilela, co-founder and close friend of Mr Mashele, sees the coetric night as a platform for artists to showcase their talents, to grow and to get a response from the community.”

Messrs Mashele and Masilela expressed their gratitude for the response and support as the venue teemed with spectators.

“The love that we got from the community, was overwhelming,” said Mr Masilela.

“We got way more support than we expected.”

Much of the encouragement behind the initiative stemmed from social media.

“I loved the turnout of the people and the support from all the friends that promoted the event with the #CHWU hashtag on Facebook and asked their friends to come through and join us,” Mr Mashele said.

The coetric night was only the first of many CHWU events and to those who are eager to know what might be next, Mr Mashele had one response: “Stay CHWUned.”
