The programme of “Taking the Legislature to the People” (TLP) officially resumed at the Lekwa Municipality.
Members of the Legislature (MPLs), Mpumalanga Province Permanent Delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), led by Mr George Mthimunye and Members of the Executive Council, received the briefing from the Economic and Social Transformation Clusters earlier.
The Lekwa Municipality in Gert Sibande District Municipality has 15 wards.
The municipal council is comprised of 30 councillors with 15 councillors from the ANC, five from the DA, three from the Civic Voice and two from the EFF.
During the briefing, the Executive Mayor, Mr Linda Dhlamini, appreciated the visit by the Legislature and Parliament as well as the effort of the Department of Human Settlements in providing houses in the municipality.
Members of the Legislature and Members of the Executive Council (MECs) interacted directly with the people during the week.
The programme was aimed at giving Members of the Legislature first-hand information on service delivery matters and to assess the impact of services provided by government to the people.
The Social Transformation Cluster visited the Sakhile Hostel and the New Standerton Water Reservoir on 13 September, while the Economic Transformation Cluster visited the Vukuzenzele, Buthelezi, Tsotetsi Farming Cooperatives and the Mlangeni Farming Project as part of oversight.
There was a formal sitting at 2.15pm on 13 September where Members of the Executive Council (MECs) gave oral responses to issues of service delivery.
The public were invited to attend the TLP at the Sakhile Stadium and were expected to be seated by 9am daily.
