eMZINONI – Secunda Cluster Police visited locals after the high increase in the torching of cars in the area.
They recently held several meetings to discuss crime-related issues.
According to Capt Magonseni Nkosi, cluster police spokesman, the visit was aimed at raising crime fighting issues.
“The police are here to fight crime and to us crime is crime, whether it is big or small or serious or not serious crime.
“We are banking on residents to help us fight crime.
“If the police and residents can work together, crime will be reduced in the area.
“The campaign was a huge success and the community was glad to see the police visibility around them.”
Residents were given various tips on how to prevent housebreaking and theft and house robberies.
Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman for eMzinoni, said though the meetings were successful, malicious damage to property is still a problem in the area.
She said the police received a report that a car belonging to a Sasol Mine worker was set alight on Sunday, 25 September.
In another incident, a shot was fired in the house of another Sasol employee.
“Nobody was injured in both incidents and no arrests have yet been made.
“We are calling on residents to help fight these crimes.”
Police said at the moment there is no evidence linking the violence to the Amcu strike, however they are still investigating.
