Suspects denied bail

Attempted cash-in-transit robbery suspects remain in custody.

EVANDER – Five men reappeared in Evander Magistrate’s Court for attempted cash-in-transit robbery, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Messrs Aaron Mahlangu (33), Vusi Ndoda (43), Moeketsi Mabusela (47), Thulani Mkhantsi (29) and Elija Mnguni (33) were once again denied bail.

Their case was postponed to 21 November.

They were arrested in August after security officials had received information about a planned SBV cash-in-transit heist.

They responded and a shootout ensued near the water towers outside Secunda on the road to Delmas.

Three police officers were involved in a car accident while they were chasing suspects.

One died and the other two were seriously injured and was admitted to hospital.

Four men were allegedly shot dead by members of the Task Force, CI and DPCI.

Five of the suspects escaped in a Honda Civic vehicle and drove to a nearby farm, but the police chased them and finally arrested them.

Four vehicles, AK47s, two pistols and an R5 weapon were recovered.

One of the pistols was stolen in Marble Hall.

One of the deceased suspects was a former police officer at the Secunda Police Station whose service was terminated after he was arrested for an attempted armed robbery of a cash-in-transit company on the same route that he was killed.
