Three suspects were apprehended with the assistance of a local farmer, Const Matlou from Standerton Police and Kasselman Security Services on the road between Vrede and Standerton during the early hours of Wednesday, 26 October.
The men were allegedly transporting railway tracks which were stolen at De Kuilen.
According to an officer of Kasselman, who was on routine patrol about 5am on Wednesday, they noticed the loaded truck on the gravel road and tried to pull the vehicle over.
The farmer was informed by his workers of suspicious activity near De Kuilen and went to investigate when he caught sight of the truck and realised that Kasselman and the police were in pursuit of an Eagle truck.
While in pursuit, the truck came to a halt and two of the suspects jumped out and ran in separate directions into the field.
The farmer and Kasselman followed closely behind.
The farmer then apprehended the driver who then called on his accomplice to give himself up.
Another suspect was later arrested and all three were taken to the police station where they were charged with possession of stolen goods.
For security reasons the identity of the farmer and the Kasselman officer are not published.
According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, the truck was fully loaded with railway tracks and sleepers, covered under a sail.
