
Const Mahlangu and Sgt Mohlala of the K-9 Unit escaped unharmed when a man fired shots at them while searching a vehicle on the R50 Road between Standerton and Leandra on 10 November.
According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, they received a complaint about armed men who were allegedly stealing diesel from Dreykon Klus Civils construction site and the two officers went to investigate.
“They managed to apprehend the two suspects on their way towards Standerton.
“The suspects held the Dreykon Klus Civils security guards at gunpoint,” he said.
Capt Nhlabathi also said the police then stopped a bakkie transporting copper and searched it.
“While the police officers were executing their duties, a vehicle pulled over and the driver opened fire at the police.”
Capt Nhlabathi confirmed that cases of attempted murder and diesel theft were opened and the Charl Cilliers Police are investigating.
