The Standerton Advertiser reported on 11 November on an unidentified young man who was left for dead in the Mandela Section Crossroads on 23 October.

The man was allegedly assaulted badly and was taken to Standerton Hospital by ambulance after a passerby saw him lying there and called their services.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the man was unconscious due to the severity of his injuries.

His left eye was swollen and there was a 5cm abrasion mark on his forehead and a 3cm wound on his left buttock.

The man was identified by his family who lives in Newcastle after an anonymous person informed them of his admission to hospital.

He was identified as Mr Lovemore Sanele Mabaso (21) who allegedly was an employee of Earlybird in Standerton.

Mr Mabaso was taken to eMalahleni (Witbank) for a brain scan and brought back to Standerton Hospital where he regained consciousness, but was still unable to speak.

His condition did not improve and he drifted in and out of consciousness during his stay in hospital.

The police could not get any information from him on who was responsible for this brutal attack and he passed away.

“Anybody with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators can contact me,” Const Leana Podges of the Sakhile Police requested.
