Murder case of traffic cop postponed

Mr Nkumba was gunned down on the Vrede Road on 5 August

The late Mr Bongani Nkumba’s murder case was postponed to 17 November at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court.

Mr Alexander Mohoebi, Ms Palesa Ditabane and Mr Tshepo Masiheleo, who are still in police custody, appeared in court on 28 October.

They first appeared in court in Ladybrand in the Free State on 8 August and then made an appearance in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 10 August.

They are facing murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and theft of state property charges.

Mr Nkumba, while on duty, was gunned down on the Vrede Road on 5 August.

He was shot three times in the chest and died on the scene.

The Standerton Police said the suspects, who were travelling in a black Jeep, registration: EB123L (Lesotho), fled after the officer was shot.

They were later apprehended near Maseru, the capital of Lesotho.
