eMBALENHLE – Ms Innocentia Mdudo was very excited when she received an SMS that invited her to a job interview at the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
However, her excitement did not last long when she was told she had to pay R3 500 for the space to be reserved for her.
Ms Mudodo applied for an Admin Clerk post that was advertised on the website, Indeed.
Hearing that she had to give a bribe to get the job, she contacted friends who are working for the Govan Mbeki Municipality to enquire about the post.
She was told it was a scam and that she should not deposit any money into a bank account.
“I was very disappointed, because I am looking for a job and decided to blow the whistle to stop this evil conduct.
“People should not succumb to desperation and believe every advertised job opportunity.
“They must be aware that there are heartless opportunists who would use others’ desperation for their own benefits.
“People are without a conscious and will do anything to make money.”
Govan Mbeki Municipality urged residents to beware false municipal vacancies and interviews that have been circulated recently.
“Be informed that there is no HR coordinator by the name of Mr Mabuza at the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
“The municipality does not advertise employment opportunities on websites such as Gumtree, nor do we use employment agencies for this purpose.
“Municipal job opportunities are advertised on the official website of the municipality, www.govanmbeki.gov.za, internal notice boards and newspapers.
“All prospective job seekers are urged to be on the lookout for employment opportunities on these information platforms,” said Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of Communication and Marketing.”
