eMZINONI – Mr Bafana Ndinisa, former ANC councillor, is facing assault charges after he allegedly slapped Ms Mavis Nsibande, an Economic Freedom Fighters member, in the face on Monday, 28 November.
This case follows another one that was opened by the EFF on Friday, 25 November in which they accuse the municipality of corruption.
eMzinoni Police confirmed that both cases were opened and that they are investigating.
This came after EFF members were up in arms over the appointment of a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) in Extension 4 for toilet installation
projects.
The EFF was on the site of the project to tell the contractor to stop the project until a community meeting is held to address the challenges.
They said Mr Ndinisa became violent.
The EFF said the ANC is now using violence to protect their corruption.
Ms Nsibande said her party will not back down because of the intimidation by the ANC.
She said what the EFF is raising, is a serious concern and in line with the constitution.
“They know that the manner in which they appointed the CLO is unfair and illegal.
“Policies state that the CLO will be appointed by the steering committee and there is no steering committee for this project.
“It is not within the power of the councillor or a political party to appoint a CLO.
“The councillor for this Ward is Ms Brenda Mahlangu and the ANC is abusing their powers. “
The EFF has faith in the justice system to deal with the ANC corruption.
They slammed the office of the municipal speaker, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, and said they are ignoring the community and taking the side of the ANC.
Mr Zuma said he does not understand why he was dragged into this matter because his office is not responsible for projects.
He said his office did not know about the EFF allegation and said they must knock on the right door to raise their concerns.
Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, executive mayor, said she was not aware of the matter and would investigate.
“I can not comment at the moment as I have to collect all the facts, contact the relevant department and get back to you.”
