The new year won’t be off to an auspicious start if the proposed interruption of electricity becomes a reality.
Eskom officially announced their intention to interrupt bulk supply to the Lekwa Municipality as from 23 January.
The municipality’s debt reached a staggering amount of R297 762 163 with Lekwa not honouring its repayment agreement.
Eskom said their ability to continue the national electricity supply was jeopardised and the pending interruptions will be Monday to Friday from 6am to 8am and again from 5pm to 7.30pm with weekends being no exception as 8.30am to 11am and 3pm to 5.30pm will be affected as well.
The DA objected to the proposed cut-offs and gave reasons such as their many years of paying promptly for electrical usage, not being the guilty party and also touched on the radical compromising of daily survival.
