The Community Policing Forum (CPF) members apprehended three men on 17 January who allegedly stole copper and a car battery.
According to the CPF, the men were on their way to one of the scrap yards to sell the stolen goods.
Mr Charles Msibi, CPF member, said two of them were in possession of the copper and the other man had the car battery.
“After apprehending them, we requested MRS Scrap Holding CC to weigh the copper and it was worth R295,70” Mr Msibi said.
It is suspected that the stolen copper belongs to the Lekwa Municipality.
All three men were taken to the Standerton Police Station.
However, only two were arrested and a case of theft was opened.
According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, the other man was not arrested because there was no proof that he stole the battery.
