eMBALENHLE – Locals are living in fear because of the violence and crime in Ext 10, known as Mandela Section.
They claim crime is too high in the area and that the section is not safe to live in.
They said there was a shoot out and cars were vandalised recently.
They also said shootouts happen often and they “do not see much police action”.
However, police said the recent incident was not a shout out, but an attack
A man apparently entered his house when unknown men entered his yard and fired several shots at his car.
According to the police, another car was set alight in the same area at the same time.
Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said this is a serious concern and police are working hard to find the suspects.
He said shootings are not only a problem in Mandela Section though, but in the whole eMbalenhle.
“This is due to the high number of illegal firearms circulating in the area.
“Some of these firearms are registered, but belong to deceased people whose families did not return them to the police.
“We call on residents to help us recover illegal firearms and to return firearms that belonged to people who have died.”
