Secunda couple found dead in their home in Houston

Mr and Ms Scheepers were found dead in their West Houston home on 12 January.

SECUNDA – Mr Gerhardus (Hardus) and Ms Dalene Scheepers who used to live in Secunda but relocated to Houston, where Mr Scheepers worked for Sasol, died on Thursday, 12 January.

The Houston Police Department have not yet released an official report, but it is believed their bodies were found in their West Houston home by police officers.

It would appear the officers went to the home after a family member became worried because they could not reach the couple.

According to KPRC, a local television news channel, police found the Scheepers couple’s bodies in separate rooms in their house.

Mr Scheepers, a chemical engineer, worked for Sasol’s North American Corporate office based in Houston.

Mr Alex Anderson, head of Group Media Relations: Sasol Limited, said Sasol had been informed of the deaths and were awaiting the outcome of the police investigation into the circumstances of their deaths.

“We have been in contact with the immediate family and continue to provide support.

“We are committed to our employees and will continue providing support as long as needed.”

The couple had two adult children and were married for more than 30 years.

Their son, Mr Gerrit Scheepers, lives in America and their daughter lives in South Africa.

Mr Anderson concluded by saying Mr Scheepers was a valued member of the Sasol team.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the Scheepers couple’s family and friends who have suffered a tremendous loss.”

The couple’s funeral arrangements are still pending.
