
After Astral urgently approached the court to prevent Eskom from interrupting electrical supply, Eskom agreed to postpone its power cuts until 28 February.
The Standerton Advertiser followed the normal route of sending questions for comment to the Lekwa Municipality.
Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager, replied on Monday, 23 January after the newspaper was sent to the printing press.
Ms Mtshiselwa said Lekwa appreciated the opportunity and respect the company’s views, while also noting the right of the power utility to switch off institutions and individuals owing money.
The municipality acknowledged the debt, but denied deliberately withholding payment to their creditors.
The e-mail stated that the municipality comes from years of instability, politically and administratively and as they gradually stabilise, these problems will manifest.
