EVANDER – Police have begun with a drugs awareness campaign at schools and churches.
The local police and Community Policing Forums visited churches with the aim of engaging the youth.
They visited Osizweni Combined School and Osizweni Secondary School on Monday, 30 January.
Mr Neil Gallieboy, an ex-convict and drug addict, gave a motivational speech to the learners.
Mr Obama Letsimo also visited the Catholic Church in Secunda over the weekend where he encouraged young people to play a role in curbing crime.
He also urged them to take part in the different structures whose goal it is to fight crime, such as the Policing Sector Forums.
Sgt Sbusiso Mbuli from Evander Police Station said they officially launched motivational classes for the youth of Evander every Saturday and will begin in March.
He urged parents to bring their children to attend these classes.
