Local residents have taken it upon themselves to ensure that civil servants and Lekwa municipal employees do not misuse state property.
One resident decided to take a photo when he spotted a fire truck parked at a fast-food outlet recently.
The resident claimed that the firefighter in question was misusing the state vehicle.
According to the municipality, they are able to prevent the misuse of state vehicles.
Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager at the Lekwa Municipality, said monthly reports are generated through the tracking system in use.
“Any Head of Department (HOD) can draw a report anytime when a need arises,” Ms Mtshiselwa said.
According to her, they discuss monthly vehicle use reports as way of monitoring the use of the vehicles.
“The transport committee, drivers and managers are summoned to account when there is a need,” she said.
She also said the code of conduct for municipal employees according to the Local Government; Municipal Systems Act (Schedule 2) prohibits abuse or misuse of any municipal property.
