SECUNDA – Col Willem Nel, Secunda Police station commander, urged learners to adhere to safety rules now the schools have begun again.
He said it is important for parents and children to take steps to help ensure safe and enjoyable school days.
“Learners should not get into vehicles with somebody they do not know. If possible, write down the registration number of suspicious vehicles possibly suspected in the commission of any crime and report it to your teachers and the police.
“Do not accept ‘gifts’ from strangers, because you can be drugged, kidnapped and raped or poisoned.
“Never talk to and tell strangers your name and where you live.
“Avoid walking alone in the morning and after school.”
Col Nel advised learners to not get involved in criminal activities and drugs and to report drug dealers to their teachers and the nearest police station so they can be arrested.
“Drugs are killing the nation and the future of our children’s future.
“Children must keep all windows closed and doors locked when they are home alone and report to their parents any suspicious people, vehicles and strange things that make you feel scared when you are home alone.
“When you are being attacked by a stranger, yell and scream for help immediately to attract attention.”
