SECUNDA – A cash loan outlet was robbed by three men who were armed with a handgun on Wednesday, 8 February at about 9.30am.
According to the police, the robbers pretended to apply for a loan.
One pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the cashier and demanded money.
The cashier was tied with cables and was moved to the back of the outlet.
Police said a security guard was also captured and tied up with cables.
W/O Thulani Gamede, Secunda Police Station’s spokesman, said the robbers disappeared in an unknown car.
Nobody was injured or shot.
The robbers stole three Nokia cell phones valued at R2 000, two HP laptops valued at R9 000 and R1 600.
“The South African Police Services are greatly concerned about the safety of the community, therefore the office of the station commander of Secunda Police Station urges all business outlets to apply safety precautionary measures at all times.
“Be alert when you do business transactions to restrict easy access by perpetrators of crime.
“Business owners and managers must contact security companies for further information on how to protect and safeguard their properties and surroundings through tight security devices, such as alarm systems, panic buttons, security fencing, electric fencing, cameras and other new technology.”
The police appealed to the community to provide any available information that will assist them in their investigation in order to bring the suspects to book.
The robbers are still at large.
