Motorists complain about taxis in town

“There are no designated areas where taxis can stop and pick up or drop off passengers,”

Local motorists have aired their frustration about the manner in which most taxi drivers conduct themselves on the roads.

According to them, taxi drivers stop wherever they want to pick up or drop off passengers.

The motorists said it disrupts traffic and can cause accidents.

According to them, some of the taxi drivers stop in the middle of road, forcing other motorists to come to a halt or use another lane.

They said this occurs often on main roads such as Beyer Naudé Street.

According to Mr Mandla Mbonani, Standerton Taxi Association chairman, they have received similar complaints and tried to engage the Lekwa Municipality, to no avail.

Mr Mbonani said the town does not accommodate the taxi association.

The Standerton Advertiser also published an article on our website earlier this morning about taxi drivers and owners who took an advanced driving courses.

Do you think it should be compulsory for all taxi drivers to take this course?
