BETHAL – Local police officers recently arrested a man for cultivating dagga on a farm outside Bethal.
The man was arrested when the police investigated a theft case and the victim took the police to the perpetrator’s home.
“While we were assisting the victim, we accompanied him to the suspect’s place of residence and when we arrived, we noticed plants resembling dagga growing behind the house.
“We asked the suspect what plants they were and he confessed that it was dagga,” said Const Kenneth Maseko.
The police confiscated the dagga plants and arrested the man.
The plants were taken to the police station as evidence in the case.
“Crime is everybody’s concern in South Africa and the police cannot fight this enemy alone.
“We therefore urge the community to assist us in all areas to combat crime and to ensure that criminals are brought to book,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, communications and social crime prevention officer at Bethal SAPS.
He urged the community to report any form of crime to the police at 017 647 9929/30.
He also encouraged the community to join the CPF and neighbourhood watch teams and to visit the police station to register as informers.
