Social workers embark on strike

They said they have been raising the same issues since 2007 which include a danger allowance, rural allowance and salary re-grading just to name a few.

Local social workers and South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) officials have shut down offices and joined the nationwide strike since 13 March.

Work has come to a standstill due to the strike and the community can not get any assistance from these departments.

According to the protesters, resolutions were taken during the Social Work Indaba in 2015 that have not been implemented.

They said they have been raising the same issues since 2007 and in 2012 and 2015 as well.

The issues include a danger allowance, rural allowance and salary re-grading just to name a few.
