Standerton SAPS find large shipment of dagga at accident scene, arrest two
They appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on the same day and remain in custody.
A serious accident near Grootdraai Dam yesterday (June 3) led to the discovery of 97kg of dagga.
Constables TG Mazibuko and MI Bruiners of Standerton SAPS Visible Policing attended the scene after a Toyota Yaris and a Volkswagen Polo collided on the R39 between Ermelo and Standerton at about 09:00.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed the woman who was driving the Yaris to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Johannes Ndaba, the woman was unresponsive at the time.
The Polo, which had Northern Cape registration plates and was packed with several black plastic bags, came to rest in a field.

The driver and his passenger were not injured.
Mazibuko and Bruiners inspected the vehicle and discovered that the bags were filled with dagga.
The constables arrested the two men on charges of possession of and dealing in dagga, as well as reckless and negligent driving.
They appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on the same day and remain in custody.
The estimated street value of the dagga is R403 520.
