Nhlanhla convicted for possession of dagga

The accused was found in possession of a black bag and the police officers who were executing crime prevention duties requested to search him and he gave them permission.

 

After Nhlanhla Abel Ngwenya was arrested for possession of dagga by Const Xolani Khuzwayo, he was recently found guilty by the magistrate during his trial at Bethal court.

The accused was found in possession of a black bag and the police officers who were executing crime prevention duties requested to search him and he gave them permission.

“I requested to search him and he gave me permission. I was searching him and the bag he was carrying, I found dagga wrapped with newspapers,” said Const Khuzwayo.

Ngwenya appeared in Bethal Magistrate’s Court several times before for possession of dagga where he was first fined R400 or 40 days in prison, two years’ imprisonment of which one year was suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of contravening any provision of Act 140/1992 committed during the period of suspension.

The investigating officer in this case, Det Const Nontando Mosia conducted a thorough investigation and ensured that the accused is convicted.

Nhlanhla Abel Ngwenya was found guilty and was convicted for 12 months’ imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a fire-arm.

“On behalf of the station management, I would like to thank the crime prevention team, Const Khuzwayo and Const Khethokuhle Ndlovu, as well as Det Const Nontando Mosia for their hard work and dedication towards reducing crime and ensuring that they secure conviction in this matter,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, Communication officer at Bethal SAPS.
