Three die in Easter weekend accident in Bethal

Several people sustained injuries in two seperate accidents in Secunda and Bethal.

HIGHVELD – Three people were killed and four others sustained various injuries in a head-on collision on the R35 road in Bethal in the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 3am, paramedics from ER24 and provincial emergency services arrived on the scene where they found three people with fatal injuries.

There was nothing that could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.

Two people were found with critical injuries and another two with moderate injuries.

Paramedics stabilised the injured on the scene before rushing them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.

Local authorities attended the scene and will investigate.

● In another accident, seven people were injured in a head-on collision on the N17-highway in Secunda this afternoon.

At approximately 12pm, paramedics from ER24 and local emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the two vehicles several metres apart from each other.

A six-year-old girl was found ejected from one of the vehicles.

She sustained only moderate injuries. Her 12-year-old sister as well as mom and dad were also treated for moderate injuries.

Three people from the second vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The injured were transported to hospital for further care.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.
