Kinross Clinic’s sewage pipes that takes the wastewater from the bathrooms to the sewer lines, were replaced on Saturday, 22 April.
This came after patients have been trying to get it fixed for several months, but without any luck.
While the pipes are fixed, patients continue to sit outside waiting for to be served, because there is not a proper waiting room.
The clinic used to share the same building with the library before they were moved to a new structure.
This new structure is very small and lacks storage facilities for medicine and an office for the person working with the files.
Only one person works with the files and nurses also have to walk from the new structure to the old building after every consultation to fetch medicine.
Residents said the clinic is too small to accommodate all the people from Kinross town, Thistle Grove, Marikana, Ext 25 and 21.
The clinic is situated in Thistle Grove and people from Marikana and Ext 25 have to walk many kilometres to reach it.
People further mentioned that they appreciate the efforts by the clinic staff who, even working under strenuous conditions, still manage to improve the service.
One of the improvements made by the clinic staff, was to cancel the patients’ consultation programme.
The former programme accommodated sick people only for three days a week and the rest of the week were allocated to pregnant women and the weighing of babies.
They now accept everyone any day of the week.
Efforts to get comment from the Mpumalanga Department of Health as to whether they plan to build another clinic for Ext 25 people, were unsuccessful.
