Lekwa municipal employees have broken the silence and allege that they are being attacked on farms when executing their duties.
The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) said a municipal bakkie was shot at four times on a farm on the Robertsdrift Road on 20 April.
A municipal employee, working in the electrical maintenance department, was attending to a complaint when the incident occurred.
According to him, two bakkies stopped him while he was leaving the farm, one stopped in front of him and the other at the back.
“The two men who were driving the bakkies asked me questions which I gladly answered, and I also explained that I work for the municipality and was attending to an electricity issue,” the employee said.
He also said the men searched the municipal vehicle without his permission and took photos of it.
According to him, one of the men moved the bakkie behind the municipal vehicle and he made a u-turn and left.
