Did you know you can apply, pay online for ID and passport?

Once you have paid, you can collect your ID or passport at your nearest bank.

Citizens can now collect their smart ID card or passport at certain banks.

Home Affairs have extended their online ID and passport applications.

Department of Home Affairs spokesperson David Hlabane said they have now partnered with the country’s four major banks: Absa, Nedbank, Standard Bank and First National Bank.

“For those applying online, you can now collect your Smart ID or passport directly at any of the four major banks,” he said.

“Now it’s easy for citizens to use their banks for the online application of smart IDs or passports.”

Follow these easy steps:

Register on eHomeAffairs

“Once you are registered on our website, the portal gives you two options.

“You can choose whether you’re applying for your ID or passport,” said Hlabane.

You will then have to go to the selected bank to have your fingerprints and photos taken.

Everything will be processed and payments can be done online.

“You’ll be required to fill in the required extra information before making online payments,” Hlabane added.

Once the process is done, collect the smart ID or passport from the bank branches of your choice.

Hlabane said users also had the option to either pay online or at the nearest home affairs office.

“If you pay online, it will take two to three days for the application to process,” he said.

“After that, you’ll receive a message from home affairs informing you that your card is ready.”
