SPCA workers being held against their will

The staff urgently need to get to the SPCA premises in Evander to feed and care for all the animals in the kennels.

Staff members of the Highveld Ridge SPCA are being kept against their will at a taxi rank in eMbalenhle in a SPCA vehicle.

This comes after taxi drivers accused the SPCA staff of transporting people. “You are carting around people, not dogs,” said one of the taxi drivers who blocked in the SPCA vehicle this morning.

The staff urgently need to get to the SPCA premises in Evander to feed and care for all the animals in the kennels. According to senior inspector Jenneth Geel, there are only three people in the vehicle and all three are staff members.

“We always have a vehicle in eMbalenhle ready to go out on emergency call outs and to provide reliable transport to the staff.” The SPCA has reached out to the eMbalenhle Police and two other staff members are on their way now to try to diffuse the situation.
