Concerned community leaders visited Igugulabasha Primary School on 12 May in an effort to instil a healthy, positive lifestyle in learners.
Sakhile has seen in recent years a significant rise in crime and drug and alcohol abuse, especially among children as young as 12 years.
A boy of 11 years was arrested for selling drugs at one of Sakhile’s primary schools in 2015,” Sgt George Dhlamini, communications officer of the Sakhile Police, said.
Local pastors, the police, motivational speakers and members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) visit schools with the aim of preventing children from getting involved in criminal activities and choosing a better life.
The programme is held at different schools in Sakhile every Friday.

The learners were motivated using the Word of God to help them make better choices and Pastor Themba Madela warned against overindulgence as well.
“It breaks my heart when I have to arrest a young child with so much potential,” Sgt Dhlamini also said.
