They spoke outside the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 May where they were picketing in support of the six-year-old girl who was raped in December.
The girl was playing with friends when the 29-year-old suspect called her and took her to a toilet where he allegedly raped her.
The child’s mother took her to the clinic after becoming suspicious when she bathed her.
She later opened a case.
Ms Lindiwe Ntuli-Tloubatla from the Premier’s office on the status of women and children said it is sad that the suspect is out and living in the community.
She said people like him are not supposed to be given bail.
“They are dangerous and could abuse other children.
“We are disappointed that he is out, but hope he will be prosecuted for what he has done.
“Gender-based violence and the safety and security of women and children are very close to our hearts and that is why we support the mother and the victim.”
Ms Ethel Nkosi from the Women’s League shared the same sentiments and said the suspect was not supposed to get bail and that the safety of the victim and other children who can become victims of the same crime should have been considered.
She described the rape as barbaric and a shame.
Ms Nomkhosi Zulu, chairman of the Women’s League, said the league will support the victim and her family.
She called on the women and the men picketing, to rise up and fight women and child abuse.
The case was postponed to 27 July.
