A protest turned deadly for 16-year-old Tsepo Mofokeng in Sakhile, Standerton on 19 May.
Tsepo was on his way to work and left his home at about 10am after saying goodbye to his grandmother since this was his custom.
He was raised by his aunt and grandmother as his father and mother had passed away.

Tsepo passed the street where the service delivery protest was underway.
In the frenzy, Tsepo sustained a bullet wound (allegedly live ammunition) to the head.
When the crowd disbanded, a few protesters noticed him lying on the ground with blood flowing from the wound and quickly attended to him.
They rushed Tsepo to the Standerton Hospital on the back of a van and informed his family afterwards.

According to the people that drove him to hospital, he was mumbling “Please call my gran for me, I want my grandmother, where is she?” (translated from Zulu)
The family immediately drove to hospital and upon arrival, were taken to a private room where they were informed that Tsepo had passed away.
