Danielle made sure that R3000 found its way back to its rightful owner

Ms. Danielle Lessing found more than R3000 in cash on the floor of Secunda Mall and made sure that it found its way back to its rightful owner.

Ms Danielle Lessing, who works at a store in the Secunda Mall, showed last week that integrity cannot be bought.

“I was coming out of one of the banks opposite the store when I saw cash lying on the ground.

“People were stepping on it and walking right over it.

“I do not think anyone even realised what they were stepping on.

“I bent down to pick it up.”

Ms Lessing thought someone going into the bank might have dropped the money, so she gathered it and went back inside to ask the bank staff what she should do.

“No one inside knew about the money and they did not want to take it, so I went back to the Store with the money and asked my colleagues for help.

“We all agreed that I should go to the centre’s management and ask them to look at the security cameras to see who might have dropped the money.”

The amount was R3 000.

“Luckily we could identify the people on the video footage and saw they were actually on their way to another bank, so we could contact them.”

It also turned out that the money belonged to an employer of the person who lost it and Ms Lessing is glad that she could have saved someone from the stress and embarrassment of having to explain why more than R3 000 went missing.
