District Aids Council’s chairman leads one kilometre walk against abuse
Mr Muzi Chirwa called on men to stop women and children abuse.
Mr Muzi Chirwa, Gert Sibande Municipal mayor and District Aids Council chairman, led a kilometre walk to raise awareness of women and child abuse on Thursday, 8 June.
This formed part of the Aids Council Community Outreach Programme.
Mr Chirwa was joined by other mayors, delegates from the seven municipalities in the Gert Sibande District, and members from the Provincial Aids Council.
The programme began with a breakfast with the elderly and people living with disabilities, as well as the handing over of food parcels.
It then proceeded to the Uxololwethu Bakery Cooperative in Ext 14 where the mayor handed over baking equipment.
“We are grateful to the mayor for remembering us.
“This donation will boost our production and help the business to grow.
“Our intention is to create more job opportunities, but this can only be achieved if we increase production and we need more equipment to achieve that,” said the beneficiary.
Mr Chirwa encouraged the women in charge of the bakery to continue to work hard to develop their community.
He also handed over school uniforms to needy learners in the area.
The Gert Sibande Municipality’s District Aids Council meeting was held at the Sijongile Ndamase Community Hall and was attended by various stakeholders and the Provincial Aids Council members.
Various HIV and Aids issues affecting the area and Mpumalanga were discussed.
