Mrs Mpumalanga 2018 says entrepreneurs must not depend on government funds

Mahlatse (Mash) Mokhatle urges the youth to grab every opportunity they get with both hands.

SECUNDA – Mahlatse (Mash) Mokhatle, Mrs Mpumalanga 2018, encouraged young and upcoming entrepreneurs to not depend on government funds for the success of their businesses.

She urged them to be innovative, to work hard, to do research and to be purpose driven.

Speaking at the National Youth Development Agency (Nyda) mentorship programme that was held at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre recently, she said the youth must grab every opportunity they get with both hands.

“I am successful in marketing and communication, because I am passionate about what I am doing and I give it all my time. The solution for our country lies in us as business people. Let us rise and make our society a better place.”

Nyda is a South African based agency that was established primarily to address challenges that the nation’s youth are facing.

The mentor’s role is to offer advice on how to sustain their businesses and to transfer skills and the knowledge they have.

The organisers said the mentorship programme was aimed at transferring business skills and knowledge among local young entrepreneurs and to increase sustainability and growth chances of youth businesses.

Ms Mbalenhle Khanye, Nyda business adviser, said: “The seminar was held to address youth issues in Govan Mbeki Municipality.

“I did that by inviting relevant stakeholders such as Central Supplier Database (CSD), Govan Mbeki Municipality LED and Procurement, because we had experienced problems with our clients coming to the office and ask how to get to the CSD because that is the tool Government now uses to get suppliers.

“They were there to explain the processes of accessing the online CSD registration and Govan Mbeki Procurement explained how they can get onto the database and access jobs.”

The attendees also raised their concerns regarding Nyda and CSD.

They said CSD is not protecting their businesses, because they were frauded in the past because their company details are available.

“So, anyone can access them, including fraudsters, and ask for quotations and after they have submitted quotations, they receive emails saying that they got the tender to supply.

Mr Themba Masuku told the attendees that they must avoid delivering services to unknown people.

He urged them to meet with the person first in a public area, before they agree to do business.
