Find out what your blood group is during blood drive in Evander
If you are curious about what your blood group is, who you can receive blood from or who can you give blood to and you are 15 years and older, visit the SANBS at the Evander PPK Church Blood Drive on Thursday, 15 February between 12pm and 7pm.
Less than one per cent of the South African population donates blood and even a smaller number knows what their blood group is.
“This seemingly insignificant detail can be the difference between life and death,” said Ms Dot Prinsloo, donor relations practitioner of SANBS.
Each blood group is very special and has a certain match, which means that blood groups are not all compatible.
“If a recipient receives blood from the wrong group, serious complications can occur, which in extreme cases may lead to someone not surviving a blood transfusion.”
The SANBS has many measures in place to prevent this and ensuring that patients, who are already in compromised health, receives the right blood.

Free blood groupings will be done.
“The test consists of a finger prick and is safe for the whole family. It is a rapid test and will take less than 10 minutes,” said Ms Prinsloo.
